Electromagnetic tracking has been used extensively for tracking and navigation in the medical device industry for over 20 years. The International Commission for Non-Ionising Radiation Protection* recommends limiting exposure to low-frequency electromagnetic fields so that the threshold at which the interactions between the body and the external electric and magnetic field causes adverse effects is never reached.
Leveraging the tracking data from these sensors, the third-party image-guided system can accurately locate and visualise the instrument as it navigates towards the relevant targets.
Continuous electromagnetic tracking of instruments and/or patient positions reduces the need for intraoperative ionising radiation from fluoroscopy and CBCT, potentially enhancing procedure safety and efficiency.
Quadrant Scientific navigation systems and tracking products are general metrology components that can be integrated into third party products, research experiments, or medical devices. The third party acquiring our system will be responsible to assign the specific intended use to their products and to identify the relevant risk classification of the final product incorporating Quadrant’s navigation system. The third party will be responsible for establishing the relevant regulatory, testing, verification and validation requirements and activities to prove safety and performance of the final product incorporating Quadrant’s technology. The third party remains responsible for any system-level testing and certification.
